A financial return-driven venture platform uniquely built around the Miami University alumni network.
Our approach combines disciplined, institutional-quality investment strategies with meaningful engagement in the Miami entrepreneurship ecosystem. We partner with experienced alumni venture fund managers, successful founders, and business leaders to access exceptional growth-stage opportunities. Through this network, we source deals from a broad array of channels—including direct alumni founder relationships, co-investment opportunities with alumni-led VC firms, and referrals from trusted advisors within our extended Miami network.

Our Model
Traditionally, General Partners (GPs) at venture capital firms earn a carried interest—a share of the fund’s profits—for their efforts. In most cases, this profit split follows an 80/20 model, with 80% going to Limited Partners (LPs) and 20% to the GPs.
At 1809 Capital, the profit distribution is structured with a mission-driven emphasis on supporting Miami University’s innovation ecosystem. Profits are allocated 80% to LPs, 12% to the Miami University Foundation, and 8% to the GPs.
In the 1809 Capital model, we continue to see returns and return the same amount of profit to our LPs as in the traditional model.
By sharing a portion of our General Partners’ profits and partnering with LPs who are members of the Alumni Network, we provide strategic support to Miami’s mission and a robust resource platform for students, faculty and alumni pursuing innovation endeavors. We believe our investment, and engagement of the LP and VC Network, will contribute to the emergence of new Miami related start-up projects and entrepreneurs.
